About the event
Composting our kitchen and garden waste can increase soil organic matter, water holding capacity and provide slow release nutrients to crops, which can lead to long-term yield and nutrient increases. It reduces carbon emissions and sequesters carbon. Composting supports circular economy, producing no waste, looking after and enhancing the earth. It forms the heart of permaculture values and principles.
In this session we will visit Andrew Le Quesne's 3 bin composting facility established for allotment holders in St Saviour. We will learn how he created this and the process to turn green waste into valuable compost. We will also discuss the use of plastic bins, wormeries and the possibility of creating a community compost facility for Grouville.
